The engine powering Koenigsegg’s new One:1 is a V-8 that displaces just 5.0 liters, which may seem odd when you consider the fact that the latest supercar is the most powerful production car ever launched. The engine delivers one megawatt of power (1,341 horsepower), which it achieves by the tried and tested method of turbocharging.

But the turbocharging system fitted on the One:1 is unlike any other in production, as Koenigsegg CEO and founder Christian von Koenigsegg explains in the latest episode of Inside Koenigsegg from YouTube channel /DRIVE.

There are two separate turbochargers, both of which are created using a 3D printer. Incredibly, the moving parts of the turbo are printed within the enclose chamber, which has never been done before.

The patented-design allows boost pressure that is delivered without any spikes, which in turn allows for a relatively flat torque curve through the rev range and linear power delivery as you can see in the dyno chart in the gallery above.
