The Chevrolet Tahoe may not seem like ideal fodder for a performance vehicle, but with the launch of the redesigned 2015 GM full-size SUV lineup, now might be the perfect time to add a more muscular model to the lineup. Stranger things have happened.

Chevy apparently doesn't find the idea too crazy. According to Car and Driver, the Bowtie brand is mulling new versions that will give the Tahoe a bit more attitude.

Speaking to the magazine at the 2015 Tahoe press launch, Chevy officials said they are considering a Tahoe RS model, which would feature visual upgrades similar to those seen on the True Black concept from the 2013 SEMA show.

However, the changes would be purely cosmetic. The Tahoe RS would stick with the same 5.3-liter V-8 used in other models. That engine produces 355 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque, but buyers would have to upgrade further to get more.

That's where the proposed Tahoe SS comes in. Any model wearing those hallowed letters would need more power although, since the SS itself is pure speculation at this point, it's hard to say what would lurk under the hood. GM could easily swap in the 6.2-liter V-8 used in the similar (but more expensive) GMC Yukon Denali, which is good for 420 hp and 460 lb-ft.

If it does get built, the Tahoe SS will be an unusual beast. It would be much bigger than performance SUVs like the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and Porsche Cayenne; it's only logical competition would be the Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG and Land Rover Range Rover. The Chevy would obviously be cheaper, though.

So if you're a fan of the old Trailblazer SS, start your petition now.
