Earlier this week we brought you video of a Tesla Model S giving a 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray a run for its money on the straight strip. Today, there's no doubt the Model S will win--because it's racing another Model S. It's the quietest drag race ever.

Leaving the line with little more than the squeal of the tires and the un-sticking from the surface, the two cars just whoosh down the 1320 with no drama--but plenty of speed, as both cars run in the mid-12s around 110 mph.

We've seen some purpose-built electric drag cars that generate a bit more noise, a Jetson's-like whine from the electric drive system. But either way, it's clear that the future of drag racing may be a whole lot quieter with the rumble of monster V-8s running open headers replaced by the near-silence of batteries and electric motors.
