Volkswagen may not have the best reputation for reliability, but the German brand is out to prove that the numbers say otherwise in its new Super Bowl ad, Wings. Specifically, VW is keen to let shoppers know that it has the most vehicles on the road with over 100,000 miles than any other brand.

That’s a mighty big claim, but VW didn’t come up with the figure; it’s based on information from data compilers WolframAlpha and IHS Automotive--perhaps it's because of all the old Bus and Beetle models still out on the roads.

The ad itself features a father telling his daughter that every time one of VW’s cars hits 100,000 miles, one of the brand’s engineers back in Germany gets his wings. Something else happens at 200,000 miles, but you’ll have to watch the ad to find out.

Following the success of previous VW Super Bowl ads like The Force, Get Happy and Bolt, it will be interesting to see how this latest one fares. Super Bowl XLVIII, the 48th running of the event, takes place February 2 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. You can view more of the auto-related ads to be shown during the game at this link.
