The third variant of AMG’s compact car arsenal, the GLA45 AMG, will be coming to showrooms in late 2014, but if you’re eager to get a close look at the car, the Concept GLA45 AMG on show at the recent 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show gives a good indication of what to expect. That’s because it’s a thinly-veiled concept version of the production GLA45 AMG due out next year.
As its name suggests, the GLA45 AMG is the performance variant of the new 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, which also goes on sale next year. It looks like nothing so much as a taller version of the A45 AMG hatchback, a car with which it shares its drivetrain.
That drivetrain consists of a 355-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, on-demand all-wheel-drive system, and seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT dual-clutch transmission. Performance should be scintillating, as you’d expect from any vehicle wearing the AMG badge. The 0-60 mph time should come in at about 5.0 seconds.
Typical AMG styling elements include the twin-glad radiator grille in silver chrome, side-sill panels with high-gloss black inserts, gloss black roof rails, a large rear spoiler, and TURBO AMG badges on the front fenders. A rear diffuser with black trim is flanked by beefy AMG exhaust tips.
