It’s forbidden fruit face-off time, with the 2014 Audi’s RS 6 Avant going up against the 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG. Judging the cars is British journo Chris Harris, who’s organized both über wagons for the latest episode from the Drive channel.

On paper it looks like the Audi just has the edge. It’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine is good for 560 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, while the Mercedes, which also has a twin-turbocharged V-8, albeit one displacing 5.5 liters, only musters up 525 horsepower and the same 516 pound-feet torque rating.

However, in the real world things are not so clear. The Mercedes has the nicer bark, is rear-wheel-drive as opposed to all-wheel-drive, and is more likely to bring a smile to your face. The Audi's added traction, on the other hand, means it's a quick car rain, hail or shine.

With a combination of potent V-8 performance, good looks and wagon practicality, it’s hard not to love either--and it’s clear Harris feels the same way. But in the end there can be only one winner; you’ll have to watch the video to find out which it is.
