Acura has issued a voluntary recall on a trailer-hitch accessory kit designed for its 2014 MDX.

A total of 652 kits are being recalled, though it’s believed that 340 of these have been fitted to the luxury SUVs. Fortunately, the MDX has only just gone on sale so some of these are likely to still be at dealer lots.

Acura says that there have been no reports of crashes or injuries involving its 2014 MDX and the trailer-hitch accessory kit.

The wire harnesses of the defective kits were incorrectly assembled during production and may not properly power the kits’ brake controllers. This could lead to increased stopping distances and the risk of a crash when towing a trailer equipped with an independent braking system.

Acura is in the process of notifying owners affected by the recall. The solution calls for dealers to repair the trailer-hitch wire harness, at no cost to the owner.
