2013 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America season opener at Lime Rock
Lamborghini enjoyed a successful start to its North American Blancpain Super Trofeo one-make racing series, with the inaugural race taking place at Lime Rock Park this past holiday weekend. The race proved to be a thriller, with Lamborghini Beverly Hills’ #33 Gallardo LP 570-4 race car driven by Ryan Eversley taking the maiden checkered flag of the series.
But the performance of all the teams improved the next day, with the cars of leading teams Lamborghini Beverly Hills and Change Racing exchanging the lead position three times in the opening 10 laps.
Unfortunately for Lamborghini Beverly Hills, its driver on the day, Lee Davis, had to make a late pit stop, allowing Alex Welch driving for the Lunacy Boutique to take the lead and hold it all the way to the finish line.
For those unfamiliar with the Blancpain Super Trofeo, it is a one-make series, the only one of its kind for all-wheel-drive cars, organized by Lamborghini and using a unique racing version of its Gallardo supercar
. Competitions are already held in Europe and Asia and now North America has its own.
The cost of entry
via a shared seat is $17,500 per driver, or $35,000 per car, per race weekend, which covers everything including rental of the car and the cost of its transportation and tires. Each of the race weekends include separate practice, qualifying and racing sessions spread over two days, and two races 50 minutes in length each.
“The success of the opening weekend is testament to all the hard working people at Lamborghini and our partners who got the cars to the grid and delivered an exceptional start to the Blancpain Super Trofeo Series in North America,” series coordinator Tristan Herbert said after the race.
With North America’s inaugural Blancpain Super Trofeo race over, and history written, the series will head to Kansas Motor Speedway for the second race weekend taking place on August 17 through 18._______________________________________Follow Motor Authority on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
