Have you ever wondered how the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety goes about its crash-testing process, naming Top Safety Picks or crash-test losers? Do you just love to see brand-new cars get slammed into immovable objects at high speeds? Either way, this new "Inside IIHS" video series is for you.

With eight parts planned, the series shows you the people and processes behind the scenes of the IIHS' crash-testing process. Along the way, we get some great slow-motion footage of cars and trucks smashing and crumpling--some as they should, some not so much.

The first two videos, "Crash test dummies at work," and "Frontal offset testing," have already been released. Six more will come each Tuesday through early July.

It's an informative and oddly beautiful process. Keep up with the whole series at the IIHS' YouTube channel.
