Development of the next generation of the Audi TT has been ongoing for years, and we've followed talk of lightness, improvements to technology and power, and even seen spy shots of test mules on the road.
The rumors all place the 2015 Audi TT at a major auto show for its debut in late 2013 or early 2014, with retail sales following later in 2014 as a 2015 model. The coupe is expected first, followed a year later by the roadster.
Power upgrades for the Audi TT's engines will be noticeable, according to the reports, but not game-changing.
The core model of the American Audi TT range is expected to carry forward the EA888 engine in 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged form, rated at about 220 horsepower, reports Car and Driver. The five-cylinder turbo engine in the TT RS will likely carry forward as well, but this time with as much 380 horsepower.
The standard front-engine, front or all-wheel-drive configurations are expected to remain unchanged.
Inside, the latest report claims the TT will be futuristic but simplified, with TFT digital instrument panels.
Previous reports have indicated the MQB-based TT will lose weight thanks to "multi-material" construction that utilizes a mix of steel and aluminum in the structure (a radical lightweight TT concept was even showcased this week). Along with the lighter construction, the next-gen Audi TT is expected to get a more dramatic design, aimed at moving the TT somewhat further up-market, to better compete with the Porsche Cayman and Boxster.
