Volvo has pulled off a major coup by hiring the man responsible for designing the interiors of cars like the Bentley Continental and Mulsanne.
Bentley’s head of interior design, Robin Page, has confirmed he’s joining Volvo to head up the interior design department at the Swedish automaker.
The 41-year-old Briton has worked at Bentley for the past 12 years, during which time he worked on such projects as the British Queen’s state limo.
He started off his career with an apprenticeship at Jaguar and has also completed stints at prestigious brands Rolls-Royce and Bugatti.
Page’s appointment bodes well for Volvo’s plans to challenge Germany’s three major luxury automakers. Under his lead, Bentley has produced some of the most sumptuous interiors found in a production car.
“This is a very exciting time to join the company, as Volvo is moving towards a truly unique design language and is reinforcing the strong identity it is known for,” said Page. “In terms of interior design, my aim will be to build on Volvo's modern Scandinavian craftsmanship and take the brand to the next level when it comes to luxury."
We should be seeing the first of his talents in the redesigned 2015 Volvo XC90 due out at the end of next year.
