2014 Mercedes-Benz S Class: Live Photos And...
Spy shots of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S Class reveal the car is very close to production-ready status, at least as far as design and construction are concerned. Today, a report has emerged that the next-gen S Class could be launched as early as May.
May, you ask? Which major auto show is in May? An astute question, and the answer is: none. But the valley between the year's biggest auto shows, which generally run September through April, may be exactly when Mercedes-Benz chooses to launch the new S Class, according to Autocar. The unveiling is said to be planned for May 15 in Hamburg.
So what should you expect of the 2014 S Class? A familiar, conservative exterior, for starters. The new model will be readily discernible from the current S Class for the sharp-eyed or knowledgeable, but it will continue with the same basic proportions and themes.
Inside, the S Class will showcase Mercedes' attention to detail, modern-yet-timeless themes, and, of course, the highest in the brand's technology, including pedestrian detection and autonomous driving features.
Under the hood, the S Class is expected to pack both a twin-turbo V-8 and a twin-turbo V-12, as in the current model, with power ranging from 429 horsepower to more than 550 horsepower in AMG models. Hybrid and diesel versions are also expected, though the new hybrid will sport an updated layout similar to that shown in the Vision S500 Plug-In Hybrid Concept shown in 2009.
