Lotus has issued a recall for its Elise and Exige due to a similar leaking oil problem that led to a recall in 2011 for versions of the sports cars from the 2005 and 2006 model years.

This time around it is Elise and Exige models from the 2007 and 2008 model years.

Specifically, it is those Elise and Exige models built from December 1, 2006, through October 31, 2007.

Some 451 cars are affected by the latest recall in the U.S.

According to Lotus, the oil cooler line on these models may become detached from their fitting. Should this occur, oil, under high pressure, could spray onto a tire, increasing the risk of a crash.

Oil could also spray throughout the engine bay, which could lead to a fire.

Lotus is in the process of contacting owners of the affected cars. They will be asked to bring their cars in to their nearest Lotus seller, which will replace the oil cooler hose and the fittings, free of charge.
