Having recently stepped down
from Formula One racing, Michael Schumacher is reportedly set to play a role in the development of road cars for his former employer.
Schumacher was replaced at the Mercedes AMG F1 team late last year by Lewis Hamilton, but according to comments from team principal Ross Brawn, the seven-time world champion is keen to stay on and help develop road cars for the Mercedes-Benz brand.
“The development of models, particularly high-performance cars, is something he [Schumacher] enjoys very much,” Brawn revealed to Autocar
Schumacher has already been signed up as an ambassador of AMG, just like fellow F1 ace David Coulthard
. And he has appeared at a number of recent launches, including that of the SL63 AMG.
Additionally, Schumacher already has a lot of experience helping fine-tune road cars
. He helped with the development of several Ferrari models during his time with the Prancing Horse, including the Enzo-based FXX, 458 Italia and even the California.
Let’s hope the first port of call for Schumi is the upcoming Mercedes-Benz SLC sports car
