Lexus has issued a recall on its IS models because of a faulty windscreen wiper.

The affected cars include those Lexus IS models from the 2006 to 2012 model years, which the automaker says number around 270,000 units in total.

The reason behind the latest recall is an insufficiently tightened nut found on the arms of the windscreen wipers.

According to Lexus, if movement of the wipers is restricted by an external load, such as a buildup of heavy snow on the windscreen, one or both of the wipers could become inoperative.

Driving in heavy rain or snow without a functioning windscreen wiper is dangerous, and could potentially lead to a crash.

Lexus will be notifying owners of the affected cars via first class mail in the very near future. They will be asked to visit their nearest Toyota or Lexus dealership, which will replace the wiper or tighten the nut to the required standard, free of charge.
