, which revealed a new adjustable rear spoiler for the highly anticipated supercar, new images of the concept version set to debut tomorrow at the 2012 Paris Auto Show
have hit the web and shows the new spoiler in its fully-extended glory.
We also get an aerial view of the P1 for the first time, which reveals a jet fighter-like glass canopy stretching over the cabin and broken by a carbon fiber divider, on which a single intake resides. We also get a better look at the headlights, which appear to be fitted with LED elements and are shaped like the McLaren logo.
The rear three-quarter shot in particular is a thing of beauty, as it makes the evolutionary link between the new P1 and its legendary F1 ancestor obvious. Though we aren’t completely sold on the front-end styling, the rest of the car is certainly worthy of being labeled an F1 successor, at least, in terms of looks.
This isn't the final production version of the P1, however. It's merely a design preview--the production version will be unveiled and go on sale sometime within the next 12 months.
As for its performance, we will have to wait and see, though comments made by McLaren are certainly promising. The P1 is intended to be, according to managing director Antony Sheriff, “the most exciting, most capable, most technologically advanced and most dynamically accomplished supercar ever made--not necessarily to be the fastest in absolute top speed but to be the quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit.”
The biggest mystery remains what’s lying under the hood. McLaren is expected to use an uprated version of its twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter engine found in the MP4-12C. A KERS hybrid is also expected, helping to give the car an additional boost when required. Combined output could end up being 800 horsepower or more
