2013 Aston Martin Virage Spy Shots

UPDATE: It turns out this is actually a prototype for the 2013 Aston Martin DB9. The Virage has been dropped after less than two years of sales in order to streamline the lineup. Click here for all the official details on the 2013 DB9.

ORIGINAL: Aston Martin is planning a mild update for its 2013 Virage coupe and Virage Volante (convertible) models, as evidenced by prototypes for the new cars spotted outside the automaker’s Nürburgring test center recently. On initial glance the prototypes appear identical to the 2012 Virage models that debuted at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, but look a little closer and you’ll notice some very subtle differences.

The most obvious is a pronounced trunk lid spoiler, whose center portion juts out much more prominently than the one on the 2012 Virage. A second, and less obvious change, is the front grille, which appears to have adopted a new shiny finish on this 2013 model.

Though minimal, the changes bring the styling of the Virage closer in line with that of the marque’s current flagship, the 2013 Aston Martin Vanquish, which also features a pronounced trunk lid spoiler and bright finish on many of its bare metal parts.

But while the exterior might look the same, under the skin we may be treated with some performance upgrades. With output for the Vanquish registering at 565 horsepower, there’s now room for Aston Martin’s engineers to turn up the wick on lesser models.

This means that the 490 horsepower of the 2012 model may see a rise to something at least matching the 510 horsepower of the outgoing DBS for the latest 2013 Virage. A similar increase is expected for the 2013 Aston Martin Rapide, which will also be receiving an update soon.

Look for some subtle updates to the interior, too, with the Vanquish once again providing inspiration.

A 50/50 weight distribution, six-speed Touchtronic II automatic transmission with paddle shifters, and Aston Martin’s Adaptive Damping System should all remain as standard, however.

Given that prototypes for the new 2013 Aston Martin Virage range are running around completely undisguised, an official world debut can’t be far. While you wait for its arrival, be sure to check our review of the 2012 model.
