Mercedes-Benz has announced the recall of 8,675 pairs of floor mats for M-Class vehicles from model years 2012 and 2013. While there is no defect with the vehicle itself, customers who have purchased Mercedes-Benz all-season rubber floor mats may experience pedal entrapment of the accelerator, leading to a potential loss of control.

The mats are part numbers A1666801048-9051 and A1666801048-7J07, and were manufactured between July of 2011 and July of 2012. An in-house test revealed that the mats may not conform to the contours of the floor well at the driver’s feet, leading to the risk of pedal entrapment when the accelerator is fully depressed.

As all affected M-Class vehicles are equipped with a brake-throttle override system, drivers of affected vehicles will still be able to stop with firm braking pressure, which will cause the engine to drop to idle speed. No customer-related accidents or injuries have been reported.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners of the floor mats of the recall beginning in September,  and the all-season mats will be replaced with an equivalent product of a new design by dealers. In the interim, owners of 2012 and 2013 Mercedes-Benz M-Class models fitted with all-season floor mats should discontinue their use.
