McLaren has released a video of the MP4-12C Spider tearing up a race track before heading to the Andalucía hills of Southern Spain for some scenic driving.
The short clip gives us a close look at the mechanism of the car’s retractable hard-top roof, which has been designed in such a way that it can be operated whilst on the move.
Raising or lowering the roof takes just 17 seconds and top speed of this model remains an impressive 204 mph--just 3 mph shy of the coupe’s peak.
Behind the wheel of the car in the video is British touring car driver and current McLaren tester Mat Jackson, who impressively wrings the most out of it going around the track.
Top up or top down, the car is a scintillating performer and should have no trouble keeping up with its supercar rivals. How much of a performer? McLaren promises 0-60 mph acceleration in just 3.1 seconds and a quarter mile elapsed time of 10.8 seconds at a speed of 134 mph.
That performance is courtesy of a lightweight carbon fiber monocoque chassis, which houses a potent twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-8 engine tuned to deliver 616 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, as well as a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
If all of this sounds exciting to you, McLaren is currently taking orders for the car, which is priced from $268,250 including destination.
