To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Renault Alpine 110, the French automaker launched its 2012 Renault Alpine A110-50 Concept ahead of this year’s Monaco Grand Prix.

There’s no denying that the concept is a stunner, and we sincerely hope that Renault decides to build it. Like the original Alpine 110, the car’s nod towards motorsport is undeniable, which is one reason why Renault produced this short film starring Jean Ragnotti.

Ragnotti, for those of us living outside of Europe, is a Renault development driver and former Renault factory WRC pilot, perhaps best known for racking up three rally wins behind the wheel of a Renault R5 Turbo.

Ragnotti’s WRC career spanned some 19 seasons, so it’s safe to assume the man knows a thing or two about throwing a car sideways on an alpine pass. The video shows a young Ragnotti (portrayed by an actor) piloting the original A110 against the Ragnotti of today, behind the wheel of the Alpine A110-50 Concept.

Is the older Ragnotti trying to outrun his past? Can age and treachery beat youth and exuberance? Is the movie symbolic of man’s struggle with fate versus free will?

We’re car guys, so we don’t care about any of that. All we know is that the new Alpine A110-50 sounds amazing when it’s opened up in an alpine tunnel, so we’d suggest you crank up the volume, set the video to HD and enjoy.
