Electric cars are taking over Pikes Peak, or threatening to, with Monster Tajima among the contenders. The latest entry to get some video detail is the Toyota Motorsports EV P002 prototype car.

Based on the familiar Radical sports car chassis, the car is predicted to reach a top speed of 149 mph from its 470-horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque pair of axial flux electric motors. The battery pack is a 42-kWh lithium ceramic that's charged by an off-board DC system.

The team behind the EV P002 is no stranger to taking on daunting challenges with electric cars, either: they set the fastest EV lap ever at the Nordschleife in 2011 with the EV P001.

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb kicks off July 8th 2012. For more details, visit the official site here.
