In years past, upgrading a car for better performance usually meant going to the aftermarket for lighter wheels, bigger brakes, enhanced aerodynamics and additional horsepower.

Manufacturers have since gotten smart, and many now offer in-house performance part divisions to keep customer dollars captive. After all, why take chances on a third party accessory when you can buy one from the same company that built your car, complete with a manufacturer’s warranty?

That’s the thought behind BMW’s M Performance parts, already available for the BMW M3, 1 Series M, X5 M and X6 M. The Bavarian automaker is now launching a line of M Performance parts for the new 3 Series sedans, as well as 2011 and later 5 Series sedans.

While the collection includes the expected high-flow exhaust system, big brake kit and lightweight, forged wheels, it also includes cosmetic accessories to dress up your BMW. There’s a carbon fiber and Alcantara interior trim kit, as well as a carbon fiber gear shift knob and selector lever.

Outside, owners can add black or white vinyl sport stripes, carbon fiber mirror caps and a high gloss black grille to personalize their rides. If there’s no such thing as too much carbon fiber in your eyes, you can add a carbon fiber rear deck lid spoiler, too.

All M Performance bits, whether installed in, on or underneath the vehicle, carry a four- year, 50,000 mile warranty if installed prior to the delivery of a new vehicle. When installed post-delivery, the parts are covered for the balance of the new vehicle warranty or two years from installation, whichever is greater.
