The Avengers is a soon-to-be-blockbuster movie about a group of fictitious-yet-realistically-dysfunctional superheros. The Acura NSX Roadster, for the moment at least, remains as fictitious as the Avengers' Iron Man, Tony Stark (whose character, incidentally, was patterned on Tesla’s Elon Musk).

What do the two have in common? Acura, of course, which has served as a semi-official purveyor of vehicles for Avenger-related movies, including Iron Man 2 and Thor. Acura will feature prominently in The Avengers, as Tony Stark adds an Acura NSX Roadster to his large and growing collection of cars.

Don’t read too much into the NSX Roadster’s appearance, however, since Acura says the car was created just for the film. The fact that it closely resembles the already-displayed Acura NSX coupe concept is purely coincidental, though we’re pretty sure Acura will be interested in public feedback about the topless variant.

Expect to see an Acura MDX, ZDX and TL in the film, too, since the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D., the fictitious agency that signs the checks for the Avenger superheroes) has come to depend on the reliability of vehicles from Honda’s premium brand.

The Avengers opens nationwide on May 4, but you may not have to wait that long to see it. Select Acura dealers will be hosting pre-release screenings in advance of the official roll out, which gives you an idea of how heavily Acura has invested in the film.
