While most of the IZOD IndyCar Series teams tested in the four-day open Spring Training exercise at Sebring International Raceway last week, in anticipation of the start of the 2012 season, there is private testing on tap March 13-14 at Barber Motorsports Park, site of the second race of the year.
The weather hasn't been terribly cooperative for the first day of testing, keeping the Chevrolet and Honda teams (no Lotus teams were scheduled for this test as their engines were returned to Engine Developments Ltd - EDL - after Sebring) from working on their setups for the race.
The 16 car/driver combos scheduled to participate in this private two-day test included Chevrolet drivers Team Penske's Ryan Briscoe, Helio Castroneves and Will Power, JR Hildebrand for Panther Racing, KV Racing Technology with EJ Viso, Rubens Barrichello and Tony Kanaan, Ed Carpenter, and Andretti Autosport's Marco Andretti, James Hinchcliffe and Ryan Hunter-Reay.
From the Honda grouping, Dale Coyne Racing's Justin Wilson and James Jakes (who hasn't been officially announced as driving with the team for a second year), Graham Rahal and Charlie Kimball from Chip Ganassi Racing, rookie Josef Newgarden of Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing, with the Ganassi team on the circuit today only. The Target Ganassi team of Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon is testing on the Homestead-Miami Speedway road course on March 14.
In a tweet, Kanaan said it was not quite as damp as earlier in the day and with the 2PM hour upcoming, some teams might actually hit the track for some damp weather testing. Of course there's always the testing tire allocation (limited for monetary reasons) that might stop some of the cars from taking track time today, particularly if better weather is forecast for Wednesday, which it is at this time, with warm and partly cloudy conditions expected.
