Following a pair of successful tests with its TS030 Hybrid race car, Toyota Racing has decided to enter the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2012.  The Cologne, Germany-based Toyota team had originally planned to enter only selected races, which would have fallen short of the number required to be considered a full-time entrant.

That plan has been revised.  The Toyota TS030 Hybrid car makes its debut in the Six Hours of Spa Francorchamps - as originally intended - the second round of the championship. The team will miss the season opener, the 60th annual Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring, they said.

Toyota Racing also reconfirmed its two-car entry for the Le Mans 24 Hours of June 16-17.  Its full-season drivers Alex Wurz, Nicolas Lapierre and Kazuki Nakajima are already confirmed; the lineup for the additional car will be announced soon, they said.

"The circumstances for the championship changed suddenly in the last weeks," said Yoshiaki Kinoshita, team principal, "and Toyota Racing considers it important to work together with the FIA and ACO to establish a successful future for endurance racing.  We have done everything we can to show our support and we look forward to an exciting season, including the opportunity to race two cars at Le Mans."
