Brembo, the Italian maker of performance and racing brakes that will be the sole provider to the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series, has expanded its industrial footprint in the United States from its world headquarters at the Red Kilometer near Milan, Italy.

The company will produce calipers for Cadillac's new ATS and XTS models in its Homer, Michigan production facility, which has been expanded to allow this production.

The plant also expanded the range and type of discs it produces to include the unique two-piece rotors for Cadillac's fabulous CTS-V group of automobiles.

Brembo has long been the leading supplier of high-performance brakes to the finest European auto and motorcycle manufacturers; its prowess at the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race each year always showcases the best Brembo has to offer.

In recent times, Brembo has achieved significant growth in the North American market, with new brake technologies devised for two General Motors brands: Cadillac and Chevrolet.

The new Cadillac ATS, a compact luxury sedan smaller than the benchmark CTS model, makes its world premiere this week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Other cars recently introduced to the North American public that feature Brembo braking technology include the Cadillac XTS, first shown in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Cadillac CTS-V series, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and SS, Bruick Regal GS and the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

The Cadillac XTS, a 2013 model is the automaker's next large luxury sedan, while the smaller ATS is its compact luxury sedan. Both use Brembo's two-piece aluminum calipers, which have been designed specifically for weight savings and drag reduction, thereby helping fuel economy. The calipers feature both Cadillac and Brembo logos.

Brembo first aligned with General Motors in 2004, when it was named to furnish brake systems for Cadillac's first line of CTS-V performance vehicles. Brembo earned a GM "supplier of the year" award to recognize its significant contribution to GM's global product and performance goals. This award acknowledges a supplier's contribution to product quality, service , technology, reliability and price.

Brembo is celebrating its 50th year of service to the trade; in 2010 Brembo North America opened a new corporate headquarters and technical center in Plymouth, MI, confirming the Italian company's commitment to this large market.
