While the design of the new 2012 BMW 3-Series may not be beautiful, it’s safe to say that the new lines are a welcome change over the previous model and so far have been well received.

More an evolution than a complete design turnaround, the F30 3-Series has grown a little while also picking some more dynamic lines and a new design trait where the headlights are stretched as far as the trademark kidney grille.

This latest video explains the reasons behind many of these details by providing a look at the design process of the new 3-Series, presented by none other than the designers themselves.

One interesting revelation is the “Scandinavian” influence that has gone into the new car, as revealed by exterior designer Christopher Weil.
