If you're the kind of person who has too little time to test drive cars for real before you buy them, then Ford's new augmented reality app for the 2013 Ford Fusion
could be just the thing you need.
Of course, it won't let you actually
test drive the car, that'd be silly (though we aren't ruling it out, one day...).
Instead, it lets customers involve themselves in Ford's reveal of the Fusion, using virtual images of the car. Users have to take a photo of a Ford logo using their smartphone's camera, and then they'll be able to drive the new Fusion through a series of "worlds" that gradually unlock to fully reveal the car.
As they do so, they can learn more about the engineering and technology behind the all-new model, and hopefully have a bit of fun at the same time. The app also includes videos and original music to add to the entertainment.
In addition, potential Fusion customers will be able to share their virtual experience with friends on Facebook or Twitter by posting up images of the virtual drive.
Users will finally get to see the full vehicle on the day it's revealed at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, in January. Customers will then be able to virtually test drive any of the four Fusions on track.
The app is available now to download on Android and iOS.
