Subaru’s XV crossover that we saw at the recent at 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show will be called the XV Crosstrek when it goes on sale in the U.S. late next year.
Subaru's Tom Doll confirmed in a presentation slide at this week's 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show that while European models will be called an XV, U.S. versions will get the Crosstrek addition to help further differentiate the vehicle from its Impreza sibling.
The new XV Crosstrek will serve as the replacement for the outgoing Outback Sport and will come onto the market as a 2013 model.
The vehicle, so far, has only been revealed in European trim, though many of the specifications should remain the same. The only major difference should be engine lineup, with U.S. versions likely to feature more powerful options. The XV Crosstrek may also only come with a Lineartronic CVT.

The practice of excluding the Impreza name from models that share a platform with it won’t only affect the XV Crosstrek. Subaru’s next-generation WRX and WRX STI models are also expected to exclude the Impreza name when they finally arrive, currently pegged for sometime in 2013.
