Will Power knew something was wrong. Even after doctors at University Medical Center in Las Vegas returned the two-time IZOD IndyCar Series championship runner-up to the track after evaluation Sunday a week ago, he continued to suffer upper back pain.

Power was one of three drivers to take to the air in a 15-car pileup on the 11th lap of a 200-lap INDYCAR World Championship race October 16th, held on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway progressively banked 1.5-mile oval.

Following the voluntary drivers' meeting a week and a day after the accident, held in Indianapolis, Power elected to seek the advice of noted orthopedic specialist Dr Terry Trammell, a physician who's been putting injured drivers back together again for more than 20 years.

After further evaluation of the injury, Trammell discovered that Power suffered a compression fracture of his fourth thoracic vertebra in the accident.  No surgery is necessary, just some rest and rehabilitation will help cure Power's ills.

Power suffered a broken back at the Infineon Raceway Sears Point road circuit in a freak accident where he crested a blind hill and came upon a stopped car.  The late 2009 incident held him out of competition until the start of the 2010 season, where he finished second to Dario Franchitti in the season-long tally, something that occurred again this year when Power was involved in the race-ending multi-car accident.

While Dr Trammell intends to consult further in the coming days to determine the next steps in his recovery, the driver hopes to be able to continue testing the new Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone 2012 Indy car in the coming weeks.  He expects to be fully healed and ready to compete for Team Penske in the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series season.
