The famous Mille Miglia endurance road race might have finished as a competitive event back in 1957 in its Italian home, but tribute and historic events have kept the name alive for several decades now.

Between October 25-29 this year competitors in America will get a taste of the format as the Mille Miglia arrives in California before the 25th Annual Santa Barbara Concours d'Elegance.

The name refers to the 1,000 miles of road driving the competitors will experience as they start from Santa Barbara and head up the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway. The journey stops at Monterey for an overnight halt before looping past San Francisco to Stinson Beach and back to Monterey for another halt.

On day 3 the crews return to Santa Barbara via another loop that takes in Big Sur and loops around Los Padres National Forest. On each day there are several stops to take in the view and have a bite to eat.

The Mille Miglia is no longer the competitive event it once was but for fans and owners of classic and vintage cars it's an unmissable event. A full schedule is available on the Mille Miglia North America website. The event will be supporting cancer awareness charity, Drive Away Cancer.
