Though it's well out of production and nearing the outer limits of what qualifies as a "production" car in the first place, the Dodge Viper ACR has reset the benchmark in road-going performance at the Nurburgring's Nordschleife with a 7:12.13 lap--now on video.

Straight from the gearheads at SRT, the video shows what we've all been waiting for since word of the lap first broke earlier this month. Showing what is a largely uneventful, but very, very brisk lap, the video serves as the evidence everyone has wanted: the Viper is the new King of the 'Ring (again). The driver for this September 14 lap was Dominik Farnbacher, a well-known German racer that has competed in ALMS, Rolex Grand Am, and the European Le Mans Series among others.

  1. And to think, this was done with a regular six-speed manual and clutch. Just imagine the time if there was a trick dual clutch or sequential gearbox saving the driver from disabling the engine every time he changes gears. Amazing!

  2. IDK, i think it's more amazing seeing a bone stock and un-tuned Corvette zr1 running 7:19. Also with a 6 speed, but also the same as any proud new owner would get it.

  3. I am wondering if this was actually a test for the new 2013 Vipers 700 HP V10 engine. The new viper will be revealed soon.
