Buick is working on a new generation of its Regal, and according to the folks at GM Inside News the car will be available as a wagon in the United States.

The information was allegedly confirmed during a recent dealer meeting where Buick showed next-generation versions of the Regal and Enclave.

Both models are due for the 2018 model year which means their respective debuts should take place sometime next year.

General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] has been without a wagon in its lineup in the United States since the demise of the CTS-V Sport Wagon. Since the new Regal will again be a rebadged Opel Insignia, which will come as a wagon, a Regal wagon would be a cost-effective method of filling the void.

Back in 2012, engineers were spotted testing an Opel Insignia wagon, officially an Insignia Sports Tourer, in the U.S. but a version with Buick badges never eventuated. Hopefully that won’t be the case this time around.
