Simona de Silvestro has returned to the United States ready to tackle the Baltimore Grand Prix street circuit with HVM Racing.
Last week the Swiss IZOD IndyCar Series driver was detained at Dulles International Airport by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) who questioned her multiple travels inside and out of the States. They returned her to Switzerland and then the lawyers took over, getting the driver allowance to return and compete once again.
Faced with the prospect of having a team but no driver at Infineon Raceway for last weekend's race, HVM called up Simon Pagenaud, who ably stepped in and, due to a race control penalty, finished P15 in the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma.
"I'm happy to be back in the USA and reunited with my team," de Silvestro said. "This whole experience was frustrating but I really want to thank my fans and sponsors for their support. It was also great to see that my team was able to persevere and post a good result with Simon Pagenaud last weekend. Now it's time to focus on the Baltimore Grand Prix and the rest of the season. We're setting our goals high for a solid finish," she declared.
HVM Racing's other good news is the addition of Rev1 Power Services to their contingency of sponsors, joining Entergy, the second largest owner and operator of U.S. nuclear energy plants. Rev1 Power Services is also a member of nuclear industry and will be an associate sponsor for this weekend's race.
The Baltimore Grand Prix circuit is still in the ids of being constructed, even as it was intended to have racing activities begin as early as 8AM Friday morning. The tentative revised schedule has the first on-track sessions beginning at noon EDT with IndyCar second practice at 6PM.
