Bellissimo! Alfa Romeo has unveiled what’s destined to be one of the most popular attractions at next month’s 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, a new version of the stunning 4C mid-engine sport car concept first unveiled in March.

The original concept took the 2011 Geneva Motor Show by storm earlier this year, then really got us going with confirmation from CEO Harald Wester that it would be coming to the U.S soon.

This time around it’s been given some subtle updates, namely, a new and exclusive ‘fluid metal’ exterior color that enhances the already smooth and sinuous lines of the car.

Vehicle weight is confirmed at around 1,875 pounds, and with the engine delivering more than 200 horsepower, the weight to power ratio is less than nine pounds per horsepower--traits worthy of a supercar.

Otherwise, it’s much the same as the original, but why change something that’s near on perfect.

The concept uses technology and materials derived from the 8C Competizione--carbon fiber, aluminum, rear-wheel drive--and technology from Alfa models currently on sale, such as its turbocharged 1.75-liter four-cylinder engine borrowed the Mito GTA hot hatch. Take to this to mean that the road to production won't be a long run.

Stay tuned for live shots of the 4C direct from the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, press days for which kick off on September 13. In the meantime, follow our complete coverage of the event by clicking here.
