2011 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion: Jaguar E-Types

The Jaguar E-Type is celebrating 50 years on the planet this weekend at the orgy of classic cars and always-classic cash in Monterey, California. We told you as much yesterday -- along with news that the E-Type's spiritual replacement is on the way as a concept car dubbed C-X16.

At today's Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, though, the essential race cars from the Sixties showed that elitist displays of gaudy wealth aren't the only thing they do well.

They also race, and Jaguar--as the featured marque at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance--was represented at Rolex by more than a dozen pristine racing machines, coupes and roadsters alike, even a 2+2 thrown in for good measure--the #48 car, which got lapped early and often by the Hebert brothers in dueling 1965 E-Types.

We can't quite bring you the visceral thrill of sitting in the paddocks while E-Types shriek their way back in time, but these photos should help a little. Stay tuned as we bring you more from the Rolex reunion this weekend, and as we cover the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on Sunday, August 21.
