2011 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion; Class 9A: 1966-1971 Trans-Am Cars

We're at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion today as part of our coverage of the Pebble Beach Concours weekend, and today's classic races have already brought out braces of Can-Am cars, Jaguars new and old, and these Trans-Am cars from the heyday of the muscle car, from 1966 to 1971.

Created by the SCCA, the Trans-Am series brought the musclecar era into full flourish, even lending its name to the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. It made names like Donohue, Gurney, Penske and Parnelli Jones household names--if you were lucky enough to grow up in that kind of household.

We'll be ogling these cars and more this afternoon from the pit lane at Laguna Seca. Stay with us for more from the corners at Mazda Raceway, and come back tomorrow for our coverage of the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
