1964 Lincoln Continental Pope/Astronaut-mobile up for auction
Enlarge Photo
This prototype stretch limousine, built specifically for the safety of Pope Paul VI, was also used as a parade vehicle for Apollo astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Jim Lovell. Astronauts, the pope, and a 1964 Lincoln Continental. It's like the most random, yet awesome, trifecta imaginable.
There's a host of interior modifications, a 160-inch wheelbase, and, of course, classic Continental good looks. It can all be yours if you're well-heeled enough to beat out the competition at the Bonhams auction at the Quail Lodge in Carmel, California, August 18-19--just ahead of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. It's lot No. 416.
Hit the link below for the official listing page and the full description. Suffice to say this car has lived an incredible life--and the bits above are just the beginning.
