Ferrari had Michael Schumacher and Infiniti has just got Sebastian Vettel, now Mercedes-Benz has followed suit and signed up former Formula 1 ace and current DTM pilot David Coulthard as the new brand ambassador for its AMG performance marque.

Though he’s also currently a team consultant for Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso, the 40 year-old Scot will now become active as a discussion partner for AMG during customer and press events, and also support the AMG development team in their test driving activities.

The information was revealed by AMG boss Ola Kallenius during a special event at Mercedes' headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany.

Kallenius said: "As an active DTM driver and Formula 1 driver of many years standing, David Coulthard has very extensive know-how which makes him a very knowledgeable partner for our engineers when configuring new AMG high-performance models."

Coulthard then reaffirmed the comments by suggesting that the B roads in his native Scotland, the very roads where he learned to drive, would be toughest to conquer for AMG’s handling team.

Note, another DTM driver active as an AMG brand ambassador is Bernd Schneider.
