From the torque-steer laden Mazdaspeed3 to the all-wheel drive Subaru WRX, enthusiasts have a plethora of choices when it comes to buying a hot hatchback. But with so many choices, which hot hatchback is king?

Earlier today, Volkswagen confirmed the turbocharged Golf R will be coming to the U.S. in early 2012. This is yet another win for enthusiasts who love hot hatchbacks. Subaru updated the WRX in 2011 with the wider body from the STI model, and Ford has both the Fiesta ST and Focus ST coming next year. Volkswagen still offers the tried and true GTI, now with more options than ever before. We can't forget the Mistubishi Lancer Ralliart, which offers the terrific TC-SST dual-clutch transmission.

These are but some of the many choices in the hot hatchback segment. Each sports unique characteristics that set them apart from the crowd. The great thing about hot hatchbacks is the fact that you get the fun of sports car with the practicality of a wagon or small crossover.

So today, we ask you which hot hatch is king? Tweet us your answer and make sure to include the hashtag #HotHatchKing -- and you'll join the chorus right here via CoverItLive.

  1. Flashback to 2006 and you will have my pick. It is the MINI JCW GP. A close runner-up would be VW R32. In 2011, I'd still have to go with MINI, although not as enthusiastically, and select the R56 MINI JCW. My "grand champion" nomination woulf be the 2003 Renault Clio mid-engined V6 Sport. It is the definitive ne plus ultra ride!

    Bad stuff?

  2. Without a doubt the STi.
What better mix of utility, performance, tuning potential (available aftermarket) and of course fun??
Seems like a no brainer to me.
