The Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG is no small player in the world of super sedans, packing up to 571 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque from a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, but that's not stopping AMG from working to improve it. These spy shots show the latest work on a prototype for the 2014 model.

New images show the AMG-style exhaust outlets, the paired-parallelogram design unique from the typical Mercedes outlets, and the first time they've been seen on the S63 AMG development prototype.

Heavy camouflage obscured almost all of the styling details in previous shots, but it's still difficult to know what, exactly, is going on under the skin that might improve on the current mix.

Our spies did spot larger brake discs and more open front air intakes, but beyond that, it's speculation as to what might be brewing for the next iteration of the S63 AMG. With the recent introduction of the M157 twin-turbo 5.5-liter engine, however, we don't expect that to change much. A freshened exterior, minor tweaks to the drive programs and suspension tuning, and likely an upgraded slate of the latest options and features are a more likely bet.

These features will likely be shared with the S65 AMG, though with a substitution of a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12 engine for the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8, and some attendant upgrades to the exterior and interior. The big V-12 rates 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque in the 2013 SL65 AMG, and we'd expect that to carry forward to the S65 as well.
