2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 To Offer Optional Automatic Transmission

2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

This past weekend, Chevrolet hosted the Camaro faithful in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada for the Camaro Homecoming, and chief engineer Al Oppenheiser revealed some more details about the upcoming 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Perhaps the most notable news is that the car will have an optional automatic transmission (likely a six-speed). Previously, it appeared that a six-speed Tremec manual transmission would be the sole gearbox. The car will also borrow the Corvette ZR1's performance traction management system and a higher horsepower number than that of the 556 horsepower Cadillac CTS-V.

Production will start in the first quarter of 2012. Pricing and production numbers weren't announced, but we expect more news to trickle out in the coming months.
