Hendrick Motorsports Inks Farmers Insurance

Hendrick Motorsports just signed California-based Farmers Insurance as a five-race primary sponsor for the No. 5 Chevrolet driven by Mark Martin in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.  Farmers Insurance will retain associate level sponsorship with Martin throughout the remainder of the 2011 season, marking the first time since February 2009 that the insurance company has agreed to sponsor a NASCAR team.

The program launches during the May 21 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  For that single contest, Martin will drive a special No. 25 Farmers Insurance "throwback" Chevrolet with a paint scheme that resembles the red No. 25 cars fielded by Hendrick Motorsports in 1986 for Tim Richmond.  Using that paint scheme, Richmond and crew chief Harry Hyde won seven races and earned eight pole positions.

Four points-paying Sprint Cup Series races are scheduled for the No. 5 Chevy and Martin, starting at Kansas Speedway June 5th, the following week at Pocono Raceway, on the road course at Infineon Raceway on June 26th and, finally, August 27th on the Bristol Motor Speedway short oval.

"We're excited about this new partnership with Farmers and the opportunity to represent its nearly 24,000 employees and more than 50,000 agents," said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports.  "It's an innovative company with very strong corporate values and I'm confident we'll continue to work together for a long time to come."

Farmers chose to work with Martin at racetracks where the veteran driver has met success.  He's earned four victories at Charlotte, two at Bristol and one each in Kansas and Sonoma, CA, site of Infineon Raceway.  A 40-time Sprint Cup race winner, Martin admitted he's "proud to be associated with Farmers Insurance; I've been a customer for more than five years so I know it's a terrific company that offers the highest quality products and services."
