Kinner R-55 radial-powered Toyota MR2

The Toyota MR2 has proven to be a solid platform for many a tuner's fantasy, but this one has to be the most ridiculous, pointless, and completely awesome we've seen to date: the Kinner R-55 radial engine swap. This video captures its first startup.

Born for Lemons competition, the excellently ill-advised MR2 now sports a 540 cubic inch, 160-horsepower five-cylinder radial aircraft engine. Despite leaving a plug out and puking oil during the test run, the sound of the big radial (and the sight of it shoehorned into the back of the little MR2) are well worth the runtime.

Check out the full story of the build over at the 24 Hours of Lemons forums.

    Bad stuff?

  2. Really wild - My neighbor Neel here in Venice has just shipped his old worn out 1974 rubber-baby-buggy-bumpered MGBGT up to the SF Bay Area that is planned to have fitted a fuel-injected 1951 Ford flathead with Mustang 5-speed for the same event. Dare to be different to the max!!!!
