The 2011 Chevrolet Volt tackles the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca

You just bought a new 2011 Chevrolet Volt, you're all set to save the world one full-range EV charge at a time...so what do you do? Hit up Laguna Seca, of course!

The overenthusiastic duo inside this 2011 Chevrolet Volt dampens the party somewhat, but the lack of engine noise lets us hear the Volt's high-efficiency tires scrabbling for all they're worth. The air pressure waves due to an open window also gets a bit bothersome at points--we thought the driver was riding the rumble strips down the straights at first.

What about lap times? From our unscientific use of YouTube's pause feature, we estimate lap times in the 2:15 second range. Not exactly breathtaking, but not completely awful, either. Nonetheless, it's an interesting look at a side of the Volt we haven't seen before. Stay tuned for more in this vein soon.

  1. Doesn't driving with the windows down at speed mess up the aerodynamics and increase drag? I wonder how much better they would have done coming out of the curves and hitting the straights if the windows were up? Maybe catch that 'Stang?

    Bad stuff?

  2. With the amount of drag a cracked window will cause I say you are talking about 2 seconds or less improvement on lap time. Also since its not really fast in the first place, a cracked window has a lot less impact than if the car were topping 100mph.
