2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class sketch leaked?

2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class sketch leaked?

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class has been spawning rumors for well over a year now, including talk of a 320-horsepower AMG variant. But today, we may have a first peek at what the car will look like. Unfortunately the A-Class still isn't planned for our streets.

Unfortunately, that is, if you're into premium small cars. America's choices are limited, but growing, in that segment, so there's a chance we'll see the A-Class eventually. For now, compact luxury lovers will simply have to admire from afar.

And admire they will--judging by the sketch here, the new A-Class is going to drop its somewhat frumpy micro-van looks for a more aerodynamic and aggressive profile. The front end is increasingly familiar, as the nose spawned by the SLS AMG spreads throughout the lineup. The fast A-pillar, high belt line, and dynamically styled sides and rear are particularly attractive. We all know how things can go wrong between the stylist's page and the production line, however.

All we know at this point is that a 320-plus-horsepower turbocharged Mercedes-Benz hatchback with sharp looks makes for a tempting--if likely expensive--package.

  1. leaked? unlikely. more like released to guage public opinion. The A class was always the weakest model in the Merc stables especially from its early Smart roots. And since they are going to go with a more pleasing design they will want to guage what the public thinks of their strategy. sound business sense and prelim marketing if you ask me

    Bad stuff?

  2. I don't doubt that the "leak" started somewhere in-house--most do. But it's not an official release through official channels, so it's a leak.
You're right about the A-Class though. Glad to see it's finally getting some character.
