Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca This October

For one week every August, California's Monterey Peninsula has become well known as vintage car heaven. This year, October figures pretty prominently in those circles as well. Porsche Cars North America has just announced its 2011 Rennsport Reunion will take place October 14 through 16, at one of the most challenging circuits in the United States, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

"While the Rennsport name has become a staple fixture for international collectors and racers over the past ten years, choosing the Monterey Peninsula will open up this one-of-a-kind gathering to the many Porsche fans in California and beyond who were previously unable to attend," says Detlev von Platen, president and chief executive officer of Porsche Cars North America. "Now they'll have the opportunity to see, feel and hear from up close hundreds of famous Porsche race cars and dozens of their drivers from past and present during a truly memorable weekend dedicated to Porsche's motorsport heritage."

Porsche's Rennsport Reunions are held every three years, and have up to now all been on the east coast. The first one took place at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut, back in 2001. With more than 28,000 racing wins to its credit as a marque, Porsche's most historic racing models, from the 550 Spyder of the mid-Fifties through the all-conquering 1000+ horsepower turbocharged 917 and 956/962 models of the Seventies and Eighties, to the outrageously capable GT3 RSR will be present.

In addition to the activities at the track, the Quail Lodge will host the Porsche Race Car Classic Concours on Sunday, October 16. Steve Heinrichs, producer of the Porsche Race Car Classic, explained, "this once-in-a-lifetime gathering of vintage Porsche race cars solely from Porsche's break-out era of 1950-1965 will raise critical funding to directly support lung cancer research. We'll have Gmunds, Glocklers, 550s, 718s, 804s, 904s, 356s, Abarths and more - in numbers and provenance never before seen."

  1. Owned a couple of RX-7's in the past. Loved their free winding nature as well as the simple maintenance. A tuneup was changing four spark plugs, the oil and air filters, and the oil.
