One of the premier American road racing circuits, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH has been sold, it was announced this week.  The track, in operation since 1962 and built by [nearby] Mansfield, OH businessman Les Griebling,is celebrating its 50th anniversary season in 2011.

Owned since 1982 by the family of the late racing enthusiast Jim Trueman, Mid-Ohio has been sold to a newly formed and wholly owned subsidiary of Green Savoree Promotions, Green Savoree Mid-Ohio LLC.  Kim Green and Kevin Savoree were, at one time, co-owners of Andretti Green Racing, which operated four cars in the IZOD IndyCar Series.  The duo separated from Michael Andretti, leaving the racing team to the second generation driver and taking on the promotions aspects of their former partnership.  At this time, they promote and conduct races at Toronto and St Petersburg, the latter being the IndyCar Series' opening salvo.

Terms of the sale were not announced.

Green Savoree Mid-Ohio LLC intends to retain the staff put together by former owners TrueSports and assume operations of the facility, incorporating the performance driving and riding schools on-site.  There are no changes to the spectator events planned for this Golden Anniversary season and for school course dates.  Other terms of the sale have not been announced.

"Properties like Mid-Ohio don't come on the market every day," said Kevin Savoree, co-owner, president and COO of Green Savoree.  "It was a great opportunity to invest in a property with a great history and tradition that, like us, has deep roots in sports car and Indy car racing.  It's also a chance to extend our relationship with Honda, which is a longtime partner of Mid-Ohio and our other properties."

TruesSports Inc. president Michelle Trueman Gajoch, the daughter of Jim Trueman revealed, "This is a positive and very exciting deal that serves all our interests.  Kim (Green) and Kevin have a great track record as team owners and event promoters, and they will bring a new energy and perspective to the operation."

The park-like 330-acre complex at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course features two primary road-racing configurations:  2.4-mile, 15-turn and 2.25-mile, 13-turn circuits.  The 50th season includes the Vintage Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio June 24-26; Honda Super cycle Weekend July 8-10; AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days July 22-24; Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge/Honda Indy 200 August 5-7; NASA Championships September 9-11; and the EMCO Gears Classic September 16-18.

The Mid-Ohio School has nearly 180 course dates scheduled for the 2011 season and the track and school both have private events scheduled throughout the year.

"I've been racing at Mid-Ohio since 1981 and have seen the pride Michelle and her team have put into the facility and the tradition they've established," noted Green Savoree co-owner, chairman and CEO Kim Green.  "It's a legacy we'll carry on with great pride."

Green Savoree Racing Promotions, a privately held motorsports event ownership and management company was formed in 2009.  Working together since 1993, Green and Savoree have accumulated four IndyCar championships, three Indianapolis 500 victories and a win in the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring.  They established the IndyCar Series' first street race in 2004, the Honda Grand Prix of St Petersburg.
