Asphalt Audi RS3 iPad/iPhone Game Hints At U.S. Sales For 2012 RS3

Asphalt Audi RS 3

Audi has been remarkably tight-lipped about plans to sell the 2012 RS3 super-hatch here in the U.S., but a new iPhone/iPad game may have lifted the veil on plans to bring the car here. The best part is, one lucky American could get one for free.

The Asphalt Audi RS3 game was designed by Gameloft, the same gaming company that did the relatively awesome (given the platform) Asphalt series of driving games for smartphones, including the iPhone. To promote the game and the car, Audi is holding an international competition with the grand prize being an actual 2012 RS3--and the United States is on the list of eligible origins for winning participants.

It makes sense, in a way, that Audi would sell the RS3 here despite its high expected price tag. The TT-RS is U.S.-bound, uses the same engine, and is expected to sticker around $50,000. That's a pittance compared to the RS3's known European pricing of 49,900 euros, but we do tend to get a bit of a discount here.

With the engine already certified for U.S. sale, adding the RS3 to the mix might make sense, even if it never sells in significant numbers (and it won't), by helping to amortize the cost of the certification process itself. Assuming Audi actually makes any money on the RS3s (or TT-RSs) it sells here.

Whatever the reason behind the (potential) move, the future is looking bright for fans of luxurious, all-wheel-drive uber-hatches.

You can grab the Asphalt Audi RS3 game and a chance to win your own RS3 at the iTunes store.

  1. I don't get Audi's plan here. The car looks great and all, but their target audience is someone who can afford a $50k car and is willing to shell it out on an AWD 300hp hatchback?
First of all, the 300 hp AWD hatch drivers are 20-30 year old fresh out of college grads who just started their careers and are willing and ABLE to pay for a Subaru WRX STI/Mitsu EVO (Although its not a hatch).
Those that can afford a $50K car are 40+ years old and are more willing to shell their money out for a BMW or Mercedes sedan, not a boy racer hatchback.

    Bad stuff?

  2. I doubt we will get this car, Americans will not pay the kind of money for this car that Europeans will, even though I think it is a great car.

  3. I'm ready to pull my deposit on a BMW 1M for an Audi RS3 - today!! If Audi can guarantee that the US will get one of these in the next few years, I'll be first in line at my local Audi dealer. Btw, I'm 33 and not fresh out of college... I just prefer smaller cars.
