2013 Kia Tam spy shots
Kia is going after the popular
Scion xB and Nissan Cube with its own ‘box on wheels’ compact in the form of the 2013 Kia Tam, which is expected to go on sale next year and has been spied for the first time testing in prototype form.
These spy shots were taken in the colds of Northern Europe and reveal a conventional boxy hatch design but with relatively small dimensions. Following a trend set by the
Nissan Cube and emulated on vehicles like the MINI Clubman and
new Hyundai Veloster, it appears as though the rear doors on this Kia Tam prototype are different on either side--on the left side it’s a conventional rear door while the one on the right appears to be a sliding door.
Styling influences will almost certainly be taken from the
striking Kia KV7 van concept showcased last month at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, while it looks like the tail-lights feature a design similar to those on the
Kia Soul hatchback.
Its compact dimensions strongly suggest that the Tam won’t be sold in the U.S., however, the popularity of similar vehicles like the aforementioned Scion xB and even the
MINI Cooper range may end up swaying decision makers at Kia.
Importantly, the Tam won’t be a replacement for the top-selling Kia Soul, which is expected to be facelifted later this year with the introduction of new 2012 model. You can see spy shots of this updated Soul in our previous story by
